As a wedding photographer, I'm dedicated to helping you create a wedding day that's perfectly tailored to you.

Let me tell you a little about me...

This is my passion. I am actually a builder by trade, photography has always been something that I truly love! It all started from a friend of mine asking if I would be willing to capture their sister's wedding. Fast forward 5 years later and here we are!

Why do I love Wedding Photography?
Because documenting YOU is what drives me to give it my all, to show up and to improve my craft. Capturing who you are, telling your story of what happens on arguably the most significant date in your relationship so far is an absolute honour which I will never take for granted. From the in between moments that you probably go unseen, to the ones you made. You will see in my work that it’s not really my business to force you to be someone your not. Being able to meet couples who are all so different and capture them as they are is what I love.

Sydney based with my wife, Jess, my son, Oliver, and our crazy Labradoodle, Maggie. Having my son really has changed the way that I look at my photography work. It has opened my eyes even more to those genuine, authentic & timeless approach. Documenting the moments that matter. It has made me think about how I can tell your story better through my images, how I can truly document your day better.

Why am I telling you all this? I want you to feel comfortable so that you can ask all the questions. So that I can get to know you and your partner, to see how you interact with each other. This helps me so much when it comes to shooting your wedding! After all, I will be spending a lot of time with you.

If you are considering Matt Ashton to capture your day, and he is available on your date, then this is the sign to lock him in immediately! (or change your wedding date to when he's available!) We were one of the many couples that had their original wedding plans completely uprooted by this pesky pandemic. We (semi grudgingly) changed plans and postponed our 200 person celebration in QLD and had a 20 person elopement in Gerringong, NSW. It was stressful having to start from scratch again, but it was accidentally the best best best decision we ever could have made.
From the get go Matt was super chilled out and really easy to talk to, and it felt like he was available 24/7 to chat not only his part in the wedding, but to literally help us plan the whole shindig. He covers all manner of roles, from planner to stylist! On the day of my veil wasn't holding and the man whips out some bobby pins from his bum bag and the veil did not move for the entire day!

Matt is all the clique but incredibly important things that you want from a photographer - he makes you feel comfortable in front of the camera (no matter how unphotogenic you feel - no forced staging, the shots are organic) - he runs the show, makes sure everything is running to the schedule without making you feel stressed or rushed - and the man is fun! For a bloke that we essentially met the morning of, it took all of twenty minutes to feel like Matt was a member of our bridal party. We are the classic 'hate being in front of the camera/never takes a good photo" couple, and were absolutely dreading the photo session part of our wedding. But with Matt we ended up doubling the time for photos, it shocked us that the photos ended up being a highlight of the wedding instead of a necessary evil, and that is purely because of Matt. He is the ultimate hype man that makes the process so natural and we are still blown away by the photos he captured. We were hesitant to only have one photographer instead of two, but somehow Matt was everywhere at once.

Everyone says not to skimp on photography on your wedding day as the photos last longer than memories, and hoo boy do we have the most incredible memories to remember forever! Being in the unique position of having had two weddings, I can with full confidence recommend Matt Ashton for several reasons. He is incredibly helpful and readily available for advice in the lead up to the wedding. On the day he is exceptionally talented at making you feel comfortable and actually enjoy the process. The photos delivered are beyond expectations (to the point where we were convinced he had replaced us with better looking versions of ourselves!) and we received our 'sneak peek' photos before we had even woken up the next day! On top of his undeniable photography skills, the man is an asset you need to have on your wedding day. I'd argue the photographer is the most important vendor on the day and Matt Ashton was the best decision we made.

My husband and I had Matt as our wedding photographer & absolutely loved the experience! Matt was so easy to work with from the beginning with quick email replies, patience answering all our questions and enthusiasm for our wedding vision. He even met up with us before the wedding to ease our concerns about last minute details before the big day. We received over 700 beautiful wedding photos that illustrated our day perfectly. Matt has an incredible ability to capture every last detail - even the beautiful moments of guests enjoying lawn games etc. that my husband and I didn't even notice on the day. We are so thrilled with the quality and variety of photos we have receive and struggled majorly to choose favourites because they are all just so fantastic and tell a story for each moment of our special day. Matt was amazing! We couldn't have asked for anything more in a photographer. He is easy going, down to earth and relaxed and hypes you up during photo time when you feel like you are the most unphotogenic people on earth. He is super responsive leading up to the day and nothing was ever to hard, he worked super well as a team with our videographer on the day when they had both never worked together before which I think is a testament to him. Our photos came back and we were sooooo happy with them. Definitely recommend him on price and product!

  • This is such a big & important question!! I want you to move, to love, laugh like you have never laughed before, to cry (happy tears of course!) I want to have fun with you guys! Most of all, I want you honestly to be yourself.

    I try to invite you to interact with each other, we play some silly, fun and maybe more serious "games". I might ask you questions or ask you to interact with each other in a certain way. I don't want to tell you what we do before, because overthinking this is not what we want!

    But for example I might say..."In your sexiest voice possible... whisper into your wife's ear... your 3 favourite veggies.”

    or "on the count of 3 I want you to try and say the same answer to my next question... (insert question here) 1...2...3.. Go.”

    Now these are very basic but all that I am doing is trying to help you relax and interact with each other! But hopefully you get what i'm trying to do here!

  • Yes! I most certainly do travel, I love to travel!!!

    Travel is free between Nowra & South Sydney and out to the southern highlands.

    Outside of these areas there are small travel fees, if it’s more than 3 hours from home (Shellharbour NSW) 1 nights accomodation will need to be added to the total cost also!

    For all interstate & overseas weddings I make sure that we come up with an agreement that is cost-effective for not only myself but you guys too! If you are keen on an adventure, I am too!

    Long story short, want me to travel overseas or interstate? Sign me up! But let's chat first!

  • Absolutely, I love coffee!

    As you can imagine my Friday’s & weekends are pretty hectic and I do need some family time. But if we can find a time mid week or a Saturday morning that suits us that would be perfect!

    Otherwise sometimes it's better for everyone if we jump on the phone or organise a zoom chat! I think it's so important that we all get on & that we are on the same page!

    I don’t want to be a stranger when I turn up at your wedding, we are meant to be best friends remember!

  • I certainly do, if we think we need one due to a time constraint or for a tradition that I would need to be in two different spots at once for. But to be completely honest, 99% of my weddings I shoot by myself. We most likely can get away with having just me for the day!

  • I prefer to focus on what I am passionate about & good at which is photography! I also know how important it is to love what vendors are apart of your day, videographers especially! There are a lot out there and it’s important for you to LOVE what they do.

    In saying this, I do have a bunch of different videographers with different styles that I work with regularly and can definitely recommend. I can help you with this process, if you are looking for videographers, I can send some links to some of the best in the biz!

  • Right now! There is no time like the present...

    At the moment popular dates are booking out anywhere up to almost 2 years in advance!

    Honestly the amount of emails that I reply to saying sorry your date is not available is silly and I absolutely hate having to write those emails. So as soon as you have your venue all locked in, I would suggest you reach out and get me all locked in!

    I find that its best if you do have your heart set on a venue and myself then it would be great if you found out from both myself and the venue what dates we are available so that you can lock both of us in!

  • Shoot me a message via my contact form!

    Once you have done this and if i'm available I will flick you an email with my price guide, you can ask me as many questions as you need to, if you are happen then you just let me know which package you would like to move forward with. I will go ahead and get the paperwork ready.

    Once you pay your non-refundable deposit (this is usually around $1000 or 30% of your package) & sign / send back the contract your date is all secured with me!

  • For specific costs shoot me an email and I will get back to you with my price guide.

    But to give you a heads up, my packages for weddings start from around $3200 with my most popular package around $4800.

    I also have elopement packages starting at around $1200 and Engagement, family & portrait sessions start from $500

  • This is a super common question I get asked and to be honest, there is no limit to how many photos you will receive!

    Every wedding is different, I would say most couples who pick an 8 hour package with me would get back at least 500 photos.

    You will get a sneak peek of around a dozen images within 24-48 hours of your day, the rest of the images will be delivered to you within 4-6 weeks.

    All your images will be on a USB. I also have options for full online digital galleries if that's your preference.

  • Item descriYES! I seriously love it when couples get albums in their packages. Getting an album will have the best of the best printed and off that usb!

    As for prints, usually couples once they get back all the images will message me so we can get some printed for you. You tell me the images, I get you a quote & we fill up those blank walls :)

  • I'm not here to just be your photographer, I am the guy who is there to make sure that the experience of your wedding day is the best it can be. I am here to make sure that you & your guests have the absolute best time possible!

    I would love to give you some hints and tips along the way if I can! I've been to a few weddings and am more than happy to share my thoughts with you. Especially for your timeline of the day to make sure we can go off and get some beautiful photos of you in the best lighting possible! I’m assuming that you may not have ever planned a wedding before so I am here to help as much as possible!
