The Cove Wedding Photographer
Documentary and film wedding photography at The Cove, Jervis Bay. Where authenticity and sophistication meet to capture moments that matter.
The Cove is a private stretch of Jervis Bay, tucked into the national park with the water on one side and the forest on the other. I know how a day settles into a place like this. The light comes through the trees soft in the morning, the ceremony sits looking out over the bay, and by evening the long tables and string lights take over while everyone drifts down onto the sand barefoot. It moves at its own pace, and I shoot it that way.

Weddings at The Cove
The Cove is a private beachside retreat inside Jervis Bay National Park, with its own exclusive beach access and forest all around it. That privacy is the whole point. Your guests are not sharing the place with anyone. They can stay on site in the glamping tents or the coastal cabins, which turns the wedding into a proper weekend rather than a single afternoon that everyone rushes away from.
The ceremony looks out over the water, so the bay itself does most of the work. From there the day opens up. Golden sand, gentle light filtering through the trees, open sky over the ocean. There is room to move between the beach and the shade without anything feeling staged or hurried.
The reception is where The Cove really becomes its own thing. Long tables under string lights, dinner going late, and barefoot dancing on the sand once the sun drops. It suits couples who want their wedding to feel relaxed and natural, more like a weekend away with the people they love than a formal event. I photograph a lot of that in-between time here, because that is usually where the best of the day lives.
Jervis Bay is close to home
I am South Coast based, near Berry, and The Cove is about 45 minutes up the road. That is well inside my no-travel-fee zone, so there is nothing extra added on to get me there. Travel within two hours of Berry is included.
Being local matters more than it sounds. I know the drive, I know how the light behaves in Jervis Bay through the day, and I know how a wedding tends to flow at a beachside venue like this one. I am not turning up somewhere new and working it out on the day. I can be there early, settled and ready, and give you my full attention from the start.

The process
How I work
How I work
Most couples tell me the same thing before their wedding: they want great photos, but they don't want their day to feel like a photoshoot. That's the only brief I work to. A wedding day should feel lived in, not staged. I stay close enough to catch everything and unobtrusive enough that you forget I'm there.
It starts with a free 15 to 20 minute call, so we can talk through your day and make sure we are a fit. To lock in your date, a $1,000 deposit holds it. About three months out I send a questionnaire to map the timeline. You will see a set of previews within 48 to 72 hours of the wedding, and your full gallery lands 6 to 8 weeks later.
I take a limited number of weddings each year, and popular The Cove dates tend to book 12 to 18 months ahead. If you have a date in mind, it is worth reaching out early.
Kind words
“We honestly couldn't have asked for a better wedding photographer than Matt. He was professional, calming, organised, and so easy to work with on the day. He made us feel completely comfortable in front of the camera and captured every special moment so naturally.”
Tess
“He was such a calming presence on our wedding day, and his relaxed vibe was exactly what I needed. It honestly felt like he was part of the bridal party.”

Your wedding at The Cove
By the end of the day, your photos should feel less like documentation and more like memory
If you are planning a wedding at The Cove, I would love to hear about it. Tell me your date and a bit about the day you have in mind, and we can work out whether we are a fit. No pressure, no hard sell, just a straight conversation about your wedding.
Your day, honestly captured as the day unfolds.
