The venue
Weddings at Vaucluse House
Vaucluse House is one of Sydney's few nineteenth century harbourside estates still surrounded by its original gardens and grounds. The land runs down towards the water across roughly ten hectares, with a colonial Gothic house at its heart. Mature trees, a tranquil pond, a quiet fountain. For a photographer, it is rare to find this much heritage and green so close to the harbour.
The day tends to move outdoors. Ceremonies are held on the Lone Pine Lawn, which looks back across the gardens to the house, or in the Southern Paddock, with the wide covered sandstone verandah on hand if the weather turns. The gardens carry the middle of the day, shaded and unhurried, and they photograph softly through the afternoon as the light drops towards the water.
Then the reception continues at the estate on the grounds, an indoor and outdoor space where the celebration carries on under the trees and into the evening. It is an intimate scale rather than a large function room, which suits the place. Knowing where to be, and when, is the difference between chasing the day and moving with it.

I am based on the South Coast, near Berry, and I photograph Sydney weddings right through the year. There is no travel fee for a wedding here. It is a drive I already make, so nothing extra is added for it. The eastern suburbs and the harbour are familiar ground. I know Vaucluse, how the afternoon light sits over the water, and how a heritage estate like this one photographs across a full day, from the gardens in the morning to the grounds at dusk.
Coming in from the South Coast means you get a photographer who shoots this city often and who has already spent time at Vaucluse House. I plan around the timeline so the day itself stays relaxed, and I stay unobtrusive throughout. When the ceremony wraps and the light starts to go over the grounds, I already know where we will be standing.

How I work
Most couples tell me the same thing before their wedding: they want great photos, but they don't want their day to feel like a photoshoot. That's the only brief I work to. A wedding day should feel lived in, not staged. I stay close enough to catch everything and unobtrusive enough that you forget I'm there.
It starts with a free 15 to 20 minute call, so we can talk through your day and make sure we are a fit. To lock in your date, a $1,000 deposit holds it. About three months out I send a questionnaire to map the timeline. You will see a set of previews within 48 to 72 hours of the wedding, and your full gallery lands 6 to 8 weeks later.
I take a limited number of weddings each year, and popular Vaucluse House dates tend to book 12 to 18 months ahead. If you have a date in mind, it is worth reaching out early.
